Can I see the day's takings without closing the shift?

Yes. The closing screen has a section called The day so far: sales, how they were paid, refunds, cancelled sales, discounts given, and what should be in the drawer. Looking changes nothing, so a manager can check at any point in service. There is also a button to print that reading without ending the shift.
