Do gift cards run out?

Only if you say so. When you issue a card by hand the Valid for box starts at twelve months and takes one to sixty, or zero for no end date at all. Cards written by a rule use that rule's own expiry, which can also be left blank for never. Every card shows its expiry in the All cards list.
