Count again first, because a miscounted fifty is the usual answer. If it is still short, close anyway and write what you think happened in the note box. Do not adjust the figure to make it balance. A shift that is honestly short by twenty tells you something; a shift quietly corrected tells you nothing. Every difference shows on Reports, Shifts and the POS.
