The gift card does not cover the whole bill. What do I do?

Put the card's remaining balance on the gift card line and the rest on cash or the card machine. Type more than the card holds and the POS refuses and tells you exactly what is left on it, so you can read the number out to the customer. Nothing comes off the card until the sale actually goes through.
