Why did my pairing code stop working after a few minutes?

A pairing code lasts fifteen minutes and works once, on purpose. Leave the page and it is gone. Make a new one from Settings, The POS: add the device, and the six characters appear big on screen for you to type into the app. The code never uses a letter that looks like a number, so there is no O against a zero to get wrong.
