Is VAT charged on top of the service charge?

VAT sits inside the total with the service charge included, as the law requires, because the charge is part of what the guest pays for the meal. The receipt shows the subtotal, the service charge on its own line, then the total. Your own tax number goes in under Settings → Ordering; Account, trial & billing in the docs explains what it changes.
