I picked a new colour preset and my page looks exactly the same. Why?

Most likely your layout brings its own colours. The template designs carry their own fixed palette by design, so a preset has nothing to change on them; presets apply to the classic and photo-led layouts. Switch layout first, then choose a preset, and you will see it take.
