Will the QR code stop working later?

No. The code encodes your web address directly, so nothing of ours sits in the middle. It keeps working as long as the page it points to exists. That is also why you should point it at a page you control, never at a temporary link.

What size should a table QR code be printed?

At least 3 cm across for a table card read from about 30 cm away, and 8 cm or more for a poster read from a metre. A useful rule is that the code should be about a tenth of the scanning distance.

Can a QR code take an order by itself?

No. A QR code only opens a link. If that link is a PDF, the diner reads a picture of your menu; if it is an ordering page, they can order from the table and the kitchen gets the order with the table number attached. The code is the same either way — what matters is what sits behind it.

How to make a QR code for your menu

Paste the address of the page you want people to land on, choose the size you will print at, and download. Use the PNG for a print shop and the SVG if a designer is laying out a card — an SVG stays sharp at any size because it is drawn, not photographed.

What size should the code be?

About one tenth of the distance it will be scanned from. A table card read from 30 cm needs roughly 3 cm of code; a window poster read from 2 metres needs 20 cm. Leave a clear white margin around it — the quiet zone is part of the code, and a design that crowds it is the most common reason a code fails to scan.

Colours that actually scan

Dark code on a light background, with real contrast. Reversing it — a light code on a dark card — fails on many phone cameras, and mid-tone colours that look elegant on a screen lose their edge under a restaurant's warm downlights. Matte lamination beats gloss on a printed card for the same reason: gloss throws glare straight back at the lens.

What a QR code cannot do

A QR code only opens a link. Point it at a PDF and a diner gets a photograph of your menu they have to pinch and zoom; the price they read is whatever the file says, even after you changed it, and a dish you ran out of at eight o'clock is still on the page at nine.

Point it at an ordering page instead and the same square of card takes the order from the seat, carries the table number to the kitchen, hides a sold-out dish before anybody can choose it, and shows the price you changed four minutes ago. That is the difference between a QR code and a QR menu, and it is entirely about what sits behind the code.
