POS and the counter

The restaurant POS system: sell at the counter, take cash and card, run shifts, and count the drawer.

Read the walkthrough script for this guide
  1. This is the Get Menu POS. It is a restaurant point of sale that runs on an Android tablet, a phone, or a POS machine, and it shares one menu, one set of order numbers and one set of reports with your ordering page.
  2. First, switch it on. Settings, then Plan and billing, then the panel called The POS. It is a yearly price for the whole restaurant, however many devices you put on it, and your plan price does not change.
  3. Now the devices. Settings, then The POS. Name the device, say what it is, a POS that sells, a screen in the kitchen, or a waiter's phone, and press Add it.
  4. You get six letters. Type them into the app on the device and press Connect. The code works once, and only for fifteen minutes.
  5. Add the people who will use it. A name, what they may do, and four numbers each. Every sale then says who took it.
  6. Then how people pay. Cash, the card machine, a gift card, store credit, a house account, or anything of your own. Two ticks decide it: does it open the drawer, and does it count as cash at the end of the shift.
  7. At the counter it is three taps. Tap the dishes, press Charge, take the money. Split it across cash and card if they want, and the change is worked out for you.
  8. The receipt prints on your printer, or shows on the screen if you have not set one up, and the kitchen gets its own ticket at the same time.
  9. Every day starts by counting what is in the drawer, and ends by counting it again. The POS says what should be there, you type what is really there, and the Z report is printed and kept.
  10. If the wifi drops, keep selling. The sale is written on the device first, then sent, and it goes up on its own the moment the connection is back.

Step by step

Switch the POS add-on on

It goes on top of your plan, it is charged for a year, and it covers every device in the restaurant.

  1. Open Settings, then Plan & billing, and find the panel called The POS.
  2. Read the price box on the left. It shows the yearly price before VAT, and the amount that will actually be charged with VAT at your country's rate.
  3. If it says to choose a plan first, choose one and come back. The POS goes on top of a plan and cannot stand alone.
  4. If it says no card is saved, press Update card further down the page and save one.
  5. Press Add the POS, which carries the exact amount. Your card is charged today for a year and your plan price does not change.
  6. The panel now shows the date it is paid until and how many days are left. Reminders go out 30, 15, 7 and 2 days before that date.
  7. Use Switch renewal off if you would rather pay it by hand each year. The devices then stop on that date unless you renew before it.

Add a POS machine and pair it

One code, six letters, typed once. Repeat it for every device you want.

  1. Install the app on the device first. Settings, then The POS, and use the Download the app (Android) link in the box called The app. Android asks to allow installing from that source the first time.
  2. On the same page, under Devices, fill Name it with something a person would say out loud, such as Front counter or Ahmed's phone.
  3. Under What is it, choose A POS that sells, A screen in the kitchen, or A waiter's phone. That decides which screen the device opens on.
  4. Press Add it. Six letters appear in large type. They work once, and only for the next fifteen minutes.
  5. Open the app on the device and type those six letters into the six boxes, then press Connect. The code never contains zero, O, one, I or L, so nothing here can be misread.
  6. The device row now says Waiting for the code until it is typed, then Selling once it has been used. Press New code if you waited too long.
  7. If a device is ever lost, press Disconnect on its row. It stops selling and is wiped the next time it reaches us. Pair it again on a replacement stops the old one straight away.

Add the people who will use the POS

Four numbers each, so every sale, discount and refund says who did it.

  1. Open Settings, then The POS, and go to People at the POS.
  2. Fill Their name with what their colleagues call them.
  3. Under What they may do, choose Sell for a cashier, Sell, and approve discounts for a manager, or Everything for an owner. Only the last two can give money back or cancel a sale that has printed.
  4. Fill Their PIN with four numbers and press Add them.
  5. To change somebody's numbers later, type them in the New PIN box on their row and press Save. That also clears any lock they are sitting under.
  6. To stop somebody signing in, press Switch off. Their past sales stay in your reports.
  7. Tell your team that five wrong tries locks that one person for five minutes, and that it never locks the POS, so the counter keeps working.

Set up how people pay

The buttons your cashier sees. Two ticks decide whether your drawer adds up at closing.

  1. Open Settings, then The POS, and go to How people pay. If the list is empty, press Set up cash and card, which creates cash, a card machine, a gift card, a house account and store credit for you.
  2. To add one of your own, fill What is it called with the words your staff should see on the button, such as the name of a payment app.
  3. Tick Opens the cash drawer only if the drawer should pop when that button is used.
  4. Tick Counts as cash in the drawer only if the money really ends up in the tray. Money that goes straight into your bank is not cash.
  5. Under Card machine, choose your machine if this button goes through one, or leave it on Not a card machine. This is what makes the button count as card takings on the Z report and what the end of day figure is compared against.
  6. Press Add it. To change an existing button's machine, use the picker on its row and press Save.
  7. Use Take it off rather than expecting to delete anything. Nothing is deleted, so last month's sales can still say how they were paid.

Decide where tickets print and what the receipt says

One screen for both. The preview on the right is built by the same code that prints the paper.

  1. Open Settings, then Printing & receipts.
  2. Under Where each ticket prints, add a station for each place that cooks. Fill Station name (Grill, Drinks counter, Sweets), Its printer with an address on your wifi or a Bluetooth name, and Copies. Tick Also on the kitchen screen if that station has one.
  3. Press Add the station, then set each dish's station on the dish itself under your menu. Dishes with no station print at the counter, which is the right answer unless you have a second printer.
  4. Under What the receipt says, set The language it prints in. Add Your name in Arabic and Your address in Arabic if you want them under the English lines.
  5. Write A closing line of your own, or leave it empty for a simple thank you.
  6. Decide the two ticks: Print a code to your ordering page, and Print who served them. Then decide Print every sale without asking, which off means the cashier is asked each time.
  7. Press Save and read the panel called What will print. If you have a tax number saved on your restaurant details, it prints as a tax invoice with the VAT line; without one it prints as a plain receipt and claims no tax.

Open a shift, count the drawer and close with the Z report

Done on the device itself, at the start and the end of every day.

  1. On the device, sign in with your four numbers and open Start the day.
  2. Type the float, which is the change already in the drawer before you serve anybody. The drawer opens so the money goes in. Type zero if the drawer is empty.
  3. Sell all day. Use Money out, Money in and Waiter handing in on the shift screen for anything that is not a sale. Money out needs a manager.
  4. At closing, open the closing screen and count note by note: pick a note, type how many there are, and enter the coins as one amount.
  5. Watch Should be there and the Short by or Over by line as you count. Count again while the money is still in your hand if the difference looks wrong.
  6. Answer what your card machine's end of day total says, if you want the comparison. You do not have to.
  7. Write what happened tonight, such as a wrong change given at lunch, then press Close and print the Z report. If any tables are unpaid, a manager has to approve the close and those orders move to the next shift.
  8. The Z report and every past shift are in your dashboard under Reports, Shifts and the POS, with a Download CSV button.

Common questions

What is the Get Menu POS?

A restaurant POS system that runs as an app on Android tablets, phones and POS machines, and shares everything with your ordering page. One menu, one list of customers, one set of order numbers and one set of reports. A counter sale and an online order sit side by side, and the kitchen sees both. It is a paid yearly add-on on top of your plan.

Does the POS replace my ordering page?

No. They are two doors into the same restaurant. Orders from your ordering page appear on the same kitchen screen as counter sales, and a counter sale and an online order end up in the same reports and draw from the same order number sequence.

What kind of restaurant is this point of sale for?

Small and medium places that serve at a counter, at tables, or both. It works as a cafe point of sale, a cafeteria POS, a bakery counter, a juice bar, a burger shop, and as a POS for a bar and restaurant. Restaurant point of sale systems are often built for large chains; this one is built for a place with one counter and a few people on it.

Is this a cloud based restaurant POS?

Yes. Cloud based restaurant POS systems keep the menu, the prices and the reports in one place rather than on each machine, and this one does the same. Edit a price on your phone and every POS has it within a minute. Because it is also your ordering page, your loyalty and your reports, it is closer to restaurant management software than to an EPOS for a restaurant that only rings things up.

How much does the POS cost?

One price a year for the whole restaurant, whatever number of devices you run. There is no charge per POS machine and no monthly point of sale system cost to add up. The exact figure is on our pricing page and on your own Settings, Plan and billing screen, in the panel called The POS, which shows the price before VAT and the amount that will actually be charged.

Is the POS charged monthly or yearly?

Yearly. You pay for a year the day you switch it on, and it renews once a year after that. There is no monthly option for the add-on.

Do I pay per POS machine?

No. It is one price for the restaurant. Put as many POS machines, kitchen screens and waiter phones on it as you like and the price does not move.

Do I need a plan as well as the POS add-on?

Yes. The POS goes on top of a plan. If you have not chosen a plan yet, the Plan and billing screen says so and asks you to choose one first. Your plan price does not change when you add the POS.

Can I try the POS during my free trial?

Every POS screen in your dashboard is open while your free trial runs, so you can set up devices, people, printers, gift cards, house accounts and the floor plan before you pay for anything. Pairing a real device and selling on it needs the add-on to be on. There is no free trial on the add-on itself.

Do I need a card saved before I can add the POS?

Yes. The Plan and billing screen will say to save a card first, using Update card on the same page, and then the Add the POS button appears with the amount on it.

Is VAT added to the POS price?

The price is shown before VAT, and the screen shows the total you will be charged with VAT at your own country's rate. It follows the same rule as your plan.

Will I be reminded before the POS renews?

Yes. Four reminders: 30 days, 15 days, 7 days and 2 days before the date it is paid until. The Plan and billing screen and the POS settings screen both show that date and the number of days left.

Can I switch the yearly renewal off?

Yes. Settings, Plan and billing, then Switch renewal off in The POS panel. The devices keep selling until the day it is paid until, and stop then unless you renew before. Switch renewal on puts it back.

Can I renew early?

Yes. Inside the last 30 days a Renew now button appears with the amount on it. Renewing early loses nothing: the new year is added to the end of the year you already have.

What happens if the card is refused when the POS renews?

We try the card again once a day for the next seven days, so a card that recovers on its own needs no action from you. The devices stop selling on the day it was paid until. Fix the card and press the button on Plan and billing to switch the POS back on, and they start again at once.

What happens to my POS if my plan payment fails?

The POS keeps selling. Your web dashboard locks while the plan is unpaid, but you paid separately for the POS, so the machines at the counter carry on taking money and the sales are safe. The two are deliberately kept apart.

What happens if the POS add-on runs out?

The devices stop selling and show a screen saying the add-on has stopped, with a Try again button. They stay paired, the cashiers stay known, and any sale already rung up on that device is kept. Renew it from Plan and billing and everything starts again without pairing anything a second time.

Do I lose my sales if the add-on lapses?

No. Nothing is deleted. Sales already sent stay in your reports, and sales still sitting on a device go up the moment the add-on is renewed.

What hardware do I need for the POS?

An Android tablet or phone. A Sunmi or iMin POS machine works out of the box, with its built in printer and its cash drawer socket. As a tablet POS system for a restaurant it needs nothing special: an ordinary Android tablet with a Bluetooth or wifi printer works just as well. You also need your menu, which you already have.

Is there an iPad point of sale app?

The app you can download today is Android. On an iPad you can still use the ordering page and the whole dashboard in a browser, but the counter app itself is Android for now.

How do I get the POS app?

Open Settings, then The POS. The box called The app carries a Download the app (Android) link and the version number. Android asks to allow installing from that source the first time, which is normal.

How do I connect a device to my restaurant?

Add the device under Settings, The POS, and a six letter code appears on the screen. Open the app on the device and type the code into the six boxes, then press Connect. That is the whole pairing.

How long does the pairing code last?

Fifteen minutes, and it works once. Leave the page and it is gone. Press New code on the device row for another one, as many times as you like.

The pairing code will not work. Why?

Only a few things can be wrong: the code has been used, it is more than fifteen minutes old, it was typed with a letter that looks like another one, or the POS add-on is not on. The code never uses zero, O, one, I or L for exactly that reason. Press New code and try again.

What are the three kinds of device?

A POS that sells, which opens on the selling screen. A screen in the kitchen, which shows tickets and nothing else. A waiter's phone, which opens on the floor plan because a waiter POS starts at a table rather than at a counter. You choose which under What is it when you add the device.

Does the POS include a kitchen display system?

Yes. A screen in the kitchen is one of the three kinds of device you can pair, and it costs nothing extra because the price covers the whole restaurant. It shows tickets from the counter, from waiters and from your ordering page on one screen, and a cook can mark a dish sold out from it.

Can I use this as my restaurant billing software?

Yes. Every counter sale prints a receipt, and if you have a tax number saved on your restaurant details it prints as a proper tax invoice with the VAT line and your tax number on it. Past sales can be found and printed again, and the whole range can be downloaded as a spreadsheet.

What do the words next to a device mean?

Selling or Live means it has been in touch within the hour. Asleep means it is paired but has not been used lately. Waiting for the code means the code is made but nobody has typed it yet. Needs a new code means the code expired. Disconnected means you switched it off.

What do I do if a POS tablet is lost or stolen?

Press Disconnect on that device under Settings, The POS. It stops selling the moment it next reaches us, and the menu, the people and the ways to pay are wiped off it. Sales it already sent are safe. Pairing a replacement with Pair it again also stops the old one straight away.

How do I update the POS app?

When a newer version is published, the device shows a banner saying a newer version is ready, with Update now and Later. It installs in about twenty seconds and the device cannot sell while it does, so do it between customers or at closing. The device stays paired.

How do staff sign in to the POS?

With four numbers. You add each person under Settings, The POS, in the section called People at the POS: their name, what they may do, and a four digit PIN. They pick their name on the device and type their numbers. Every sale then records who took it.

What can each role do at the POS?

Three choices when you add somebody. Sell is an ordinary cashier. Sell, and approve discounts is a manager, who can also give money back, cancel a printed sale, take money out of the drawer, and close a shift over unpaid tables. Everything is the owner level.

What happens if somebody types the wrong PIN?

Five wrong tries lock that person for five minutes. It never locks the POS itself, so nobody can shut your counter down by typing wrong numbers on purpose, and the other cashiers carry on. Giving that person a new PIN clears the wait immediately.

Is a four digit PIN safe enough?

It is safe because of what surrounds it. The PIN is useless without the device, which holds its own long key from pairing. It is checked on our side and never on the device. Five wrong tries lock that one person, and a locked person never locks the restaurant out of its own counter.

How do I change or remove somebody's PIN?

On the same row under People at the POS. Type the new four numbers in the New PIN box and press Save. To stop somebody signing in at all, press Switch off. Their past sales stay in your reports either way.

Can staff clock in and out on the POS?

Yes, with the same four numbers they sign in with, and the hours are in your reports.

How do I ring up a sale?

Tap the dishes, choose any options the dish asks for, then press Charge. Pick how they are paying, and the change is worked out for you. It is the same menu, the same prices and the same options as your ordering page, so nothing has to be kept in two places.

Can I sell something that is not on the menu?

Yes. On the selling screen there is a Not on the menu button. Type a short name and a price, choose how many, and it goes on the sale, the receipt and the takings like any other line. It touches no stock, because there is no dish to count down.

Can I put a sale aside and come back to it?

Yes. Press Put aside on the selling screen. The basket goes to one side and you serve the next person. Nothing has been charged, no number has been drawn, and the kitchen has not been told. Pick it up from the same Put aside button, which shows how many are waiting.

How do I give a discount at the counter?

The Discount button on the selling screen takes a percentage or an amount, and always asks for a reason. The reason is stored on the sale rather than lost in conversation, so a discount can always be explained later, and the Z report shows the total given away. A cashier can see what it would do but only a manager can apply it.

Can I add a customer's number to a counter sale?

Yes, and only if they want it. There is a screen for their number with a No thanks button, because a sale works perfectly well without one. The number goes on the sale, and it is what lets you send them the receipt on WhatsApp afterwards.

Do counter sales use the same order numbers as online orders?

Yes. One sequence for the whole restaurant. A counter sale takes the next number just as an online order does, so there is one book, not two.

Can I change the buttons my cashiers see?

Yes. Settings, then Arranging the POS. Drag a tab to reorder the rail and drag a dish into the Most sold tab so your busiest items are on the first screen. Press Save the layout. It changes the order things appear in and nothing else. It never hides a dish and never changes a price.

Can each POS have its own arrangement?

Yes. At the top of Arranging the POS, the picker says Every POS in this restaurant, or you can pick one device. A drive through window and a dine in counter rarely sell the same things. A device without its own arrangement uses the restaurant's.

Can Get Menu arrange the POS for me?

Yes. Arranging the POS has a box called Let us do it for you, listing the ten dishes that sold most in the last seven days, counting the counter and your ordering page together. One button puts them in the Most sold tab, and you can still drag anything afterwards.

What ways of paying can the POS take?

Cash, a card machine, a gift card, store credit, a house account, and anything else you add yourself, such as a payment app your customers use. You set the list under Settings, The POS, in the section called How people pay. If you have none yet, one button called Set up cash and card creates the usual set for you.

Does Get Menu take the payment?

No. The customer pays you the way they always did. The POS records how the money was taken, so your reports and your drawer add up at the end of the day.

Can one bill be paid half in cash and half by card?

Yes. On the Charge screen, add each part and the screen shows what is still to pay underneath. It is one sale with several parts, not several sales.

Why will the POS not let me overpay on the card machine?

Because only cash can be over. Change is real money out of the drawer, and typing too much against a card machine is a typing mistake rather than a customer handing you a note. The screen says to check the amounts. Cash can be over as much as you like, and the change is worked out.

What do the two ticks next to a way of paying mean?

Opens the cash drawer decides whether the drawer pops when that is used. Counts as cash in the drawer decides whether it is expected in the tray at closing. Get those two right and your end of shift count matches the money. Money that goes straight into your bank is not cash, even though the customer paid with their phone.

Can a customer pay with a gift card at the counter?

Yes. Pick the gift card button on the Charge screen and type or scan the code. The POS checks it is real, not cancelled, not expired, and has enough on it, and takes exactly that amount off the balance. If the card does not cover the whole bill, the rest is paid another way on the same sale.

What is a house account?

A company or a regular who runs a tab and settles later. Pick House account on the Charge screen and choose the account. You can set a limit on the account, and the POS refuses the moment a sale would take it past that limit. Zero means no limit. You record their payment and print their statement from the dashboard.

What is store credit?

Money you hold for a named customer, found by their phone number. Pick Store credit on the Charge screen and type the number. It spends like cash but it is yours to give and take, which makes it the right answer for an apology or a returned order.

Why does my card button show no takings on the Z report?

Because that button is not marked as a card machine. Under Settings, The POS, each way of paying has a picker next to it. If your card button is called anything other than Card machine, choose the machine there and press Save. That is what makes a button count as card takings, and it is what the end of day figure is compared against.

Can I stop using a way of paying without losing the history?

Yes. Press Take it off. Nothing is deleted, so last month's sales can still say how they were paid, and Put it back returns it. Cash and the card machine are always there and cannot be removed.

How does the cash drawer open?

The drawer is plugged into the receipt printer, and the POS sends the pulse when a sale is taken with something you marked as opening the drawer. There is also a test button on the device, under its own Settings, so you can check the cable before a shift.

Will a waiter's phone open the drawer at the counter?

No, and that is deliberate. A drawer opens where it is, in front of the person responsible for it. A waiter's phone popping the counter drawer would leave it open in an empty room. The waiter carries the cash and hands it in, and the hand in is recorded against them.

How do I record money going in or out of the drawer?

On the shift screen there are three buttons. Money out for paying a supplier or petty cash, which a manager approves. Money in for change brought from the bank. Waiter handing in for cash a waiter collected at the tables, counted with them and recorded under their name. Each one asks what it was for.

How do I start a shift?

Open Start the day on the device and type the float, which is the change already in the drawer before a single customer has been served. Press the button and the drawer opens so the change goes in. That number is what tonight's count is measured against, so get it right now.

Can I open a shift with nothing in the drawer?

Yes. Type zero. What you cannot do is open a second shift on the same device while one is still open, and a negative float is refused because it is always a typing mistake.

How do I count the drawer at the end of the day?

Open the closing screen and count note by note. You pick a note and type how many there are, and the coins go in as one amount. As you count, the screen shows what should be there and whether you are short by or over by, so you find a miscount while the money is still in your hand.

What does should be there mean?

The float, plus every cash sale and anything put into the drawer, minus cash refunds and anything taken out. Only cash counts. A card sale changes what the report says and not what is in the tray, and mixing the two makes a difference nobody can explain.

What is on the Z report?

What each way of paying took and how many sales it took, gross sales, refunds, net sales, tips, the number of orders, sales cancelled after printing, discounts given, the float, money in and out, what should be in the drawer, what was counted, and the difference. There is a place to write what happened tonight, and it is kept with the report.

Why is the Z report not worked out again later?

Because a day that has been counted, signed and banked should not change. The figures are stored exactly as they stood at close, so a change to how a figure is defined later never rewrites a night somebody already counted.

What is the card machine end of day figure for?

At closing the POS asks what your card machine's own end of day total says. You do not have to answer. If you do, the Z report shows what the POS took on card next to what the machine says, and the difference. That is how you catch a card payment that was taken on the machine and never rung up.

Can I close a shift when tables have not paid?

A cashier cannot. The screen says how many orders are unpaid and asks for a manager. A manager can close anyway, and the unpaid orders move to the next shift rather than being stranded in a day that has already been counted. That decision is recorded.

Where do I see past shifts?

Reports, then Shifts and the POS. It shows what the POS took, the number of sales, your average sale next to the online average, how far the drawer was out across the range, and what was cancelled after printing. Under that, one row per shift with its Z number, when it closed, who closed it, what it took in, cash, and the drawer difference.

Can I download POS sales as a spreadsheet?

Yes. Reports, Shifts and the POS, then Download CSV for the dates you have chosen.

What printers work with the POS?

Thermal receipt printers on your wifi or network, Bluetooth printers, and the printer built into a Sunmi or iMin POS machine. USB printers are not supported. You add a printer's address under Settings, Printing and receipts, and it reaches the device within a minute.

What happens if I have no printer?

You can still sell. When you press Print, the same receipt the printer would have produced is shown on the screen instead, with a line saying why. The customer can read it, and you can send it to them on WhatsApp.

Can I send the receipt on WhatsApp?

Yes. After a sale there is a Send on WhatsApp button. Type the customer's number starting with the country code. It sends the receipt and nothing else. Asking for a receipt is not consent to be marketed at, so a walk in stays a walk in.

Can the receipt print in Arabic?

Yes. Settings, Printing and receipts, then The language it prints in. You can also add your name and address in Arabic. The other language is one tap away on any past sale, so you can hand over an Arabic copy if the tax authority asks.

Does the receipt show VAT?

If you have a tax number saved on your restaurant details, the receipt prints as a tax invoice with the VAT line and your tax number. Without one it prints as a plain receipt and claims no tax. The tax lines are not something you can switch off.

Can I put my own wording on the receipt?

Yes. Under What the receipt says there is a closing line of your own, and two ticks: print a code to your ordering page, and print who served them. The panel beside the form shows exactly what will come out of the printer, built by the same code that prints the real thing.

Can I stop printing a receipt for every sale?

Yes. Leave Print every sale without asking unticked and the cashier is asked each time, which saves paper on a small order nobody wants a receipt for.

Can different dishes print in different parts of the kitchen?

Yes. Add a station for each place that cooks, such as Grill, Drinks counter or Sweets, each with its own printer, its own number of copies, and its own place on the kitchen screen. Then set each dish's station on the dish itself. One order becomes one ticket per station, and every ticket carries the same order number.

What happens if a station's printer stops answering?

Its dishes print at the counter instead, with the station's name across the top. Nothing is ever dropped silently.

When does the kitchen ticket print?

You choose, on the device's own settings. Before the receipt, so the kitchen starts first. After the receipt, so they pay first and then you cook. Or only when you send it, which is what table service uses and which means a counter sale prints no kitchen ticket at all.

Can I print a receipt again?

Yes. Print again is on the screen straight after a sale, and on any sale you open through Find a sale.

How do I refund a sale on the POS?

Open Find a sale and search by the receipt number, the amount, or the last four digits of a phone. Open the sale, tick the dishes that are going back, type why, and a manager approves it with their own four numbers. It prints a credit note.

Who has to approve a refund?

A manager or the owner. The cashier stays signed in, the manager picks their own name and types their own numbers, and the refund is recorded against the manager, not the cashier.

Can I refund more than the customer paid?

No. The POS checks what that sale took, minus anything already given back, and refuses anything above it. Without that check, two half refunds and a full one hand out more than the customer ever paid, and the drawer finds out at closing.

Where does refunded money go?

Back the way it came in. Cash comes out of the drawer and is shown as a refund on the day's report. A refund on a sale paid by gift card, store credit or a house account goes back onto that balance, read from the sale itself rather than typed in.

Does a refund put the stock back?

Only if you say so. It is a tick, because a refund for a burnt steak must not put the steak back on the shelf.

How do I cancel a sale that has already printed?

A manager voids it, with a reason. Only a sale that has not been paid for can be voided. A sale that has been paid needs a refund instead, because a void that quietly undid a payment would leave the drawer wrong. Cancelled sales show on the Z report and in Reports as cancelled after printing.

How do I throw away a sale I am still typing?

There is a button on the selling screen that empties the basket. Nothing has been charged and nothing is lost except the typing, because no number has been drawn and the kitchen has not been told.

What else needs a manager's approval?

Giving money back, cancelling a sale that has printed, taking money out of the drawer, and closing a shift while tables are still unpaid. In every case the manager types their own four numbers and it is recorded against them.

Does the POS work with no internet?

Yes. Keep selling. The sale is written on the device first and sent second, so even if the app is closed a moment later the sale survives. Everything goes up on its own the moment the connection is back.

What does the cashier see when the wifi is down?

The change to give, worked out on the device, and a line in green saying the sale is safe on this device and will reach us when the wifi is back. In green on purpose, because a cashier who thinks a sale failed will ring it up a second time.

Will an offline sale be charged twice when it goes up?

No. Each sale carries its own key from the moment it is rung up, and the same key is used on every retry, so a repeat is recognised and the original sale is handed back rather than a second one being created.

How do I know every sale has reached Get Menu?

The device's own settings have a section showing sales waiting to go up. When it says nothing is waiting, everything this device has taken has reached us. The selling screen also shows a line when anything is waiting. Do not switch a device off while that number is above zero.

Can I still print and open the drawer when the internet is down?

Yes. The printer and the drawer are on your own counter, not on the internet, so both keep working.

Can the customer see what they are being charged?

Yes. A customer facing screen mirrors the basket as the cashier builds it: your restaurant's name, every line with its price, any discount, the amount to pay, and your closing line. Nothing on it can be pressed, because a customer never touches the POS.

Do I need a second screen for the customer display?

Not necessarily. On a POS machine with a customer facing screen it appears there by itself. On an ordinary tablet you can open it from the device's settings and turn the tablet round. A tap anywhere on it brings the selling screen back for the cashier.

Can I use the POS in Arabic?

Yes. Each device has its own language setting for its screens, and the receipt's language is chosen separately under Printing and receipts.

Does stock come down when I sell at the counter?

Yes. A dish with a count comes down as it sells, and it greys out on the POS the moment it runs out, so nobody sells what the kitchen has not got.

Can a cook mark something sold out from the kitchen screen?

Yes. The cook is the one who knows, so it is not a manager's job. It takes the dish off the POS and off your ordering page at the same time.

How many devices can one restaurant have?

As many as you want. The yearly price does not change with the number of POS machines, kitchen screens or waiter phones.

How long does it take to set up the POS?

About ten minutes once the add-on is on, and most of it is adding the people who will use it and giving each of them four digits. Your menu is already there.
